Hi Pete,
Sandra here, Bob’s daughter? Remember me? How I subscribe to your blog? I share many of your same views.
Keep up the good blogging! S
Mr. Cutler, great blog, my compliments. I appreciate many things about it, it is coming from Maine, it is informative, insightful, well written, well thought out and presented.
I came across your blog a few weeks ago and thought it rude if I didn’t pay my regards and thank you for your efforts. I stop by daily now.
I hail from Vermont, now living out here in Colorado; I am afraid my home state isn’t what I remembered it to be so your voice from Maine is encouraging.
What I especially find refreshing is how you present your case, stick to the facts and don’t delve into the “ad hominem” attacks so often seen these days. While I may understand the bitterness that is out there, I have always felt it important to maintain the moral high ground. You do this admirably, keep up the good work.
Jim
Jim, I appreciate very much your visits and your courtesy. Your comments are always welcome.
I do have my own way of looking at things, but always am willing to listen to the other side as long as a good argument is made without rude language and/or personal attacks.
It is a long way from Vermont to Colorado. Vermont still has beautiful scenery, for sure. I visited the Pike’s Peak area back in the late 60′s and can really appreciate the natural beauty there, too.
Please stay in touch.

Pete, another well written piece. I never thought of being conservative as having the courage to distance one’s self from the herd mentality. For myself I think it was more the draw towards self determination and freedom from a very early age. However I can understand the self examination that converting from liberalism to indepentant or conservatism must cause, and the lifestyle changes that reasonably must follow that conversion.
Welcome aboard, Mike. You have clearly described the process by which many of us have developed our conservative values and our early years certainly play a large part in the journey.
I was particularly heartened by the fact that Mamet, a long-viewed member of the Liberal camp, had the courage and insight to deny the label that had been bestowed upon him.
I will be looking forward to your future input.
